People who have new ideas are threatening to the status quo
The status quo is not necessarily a bad thing, because it (usually) kind of works.[1] So when a visionary shows up with a poorly explained idea (perhaps a faint signal from the future, or perhaps not) that threatens everything that is working, loss aversion kicks in to create a powerful Status Quo Bias: the predisposition to keep doing what we are doing now.
